After his poor performance in the 4-1 thumping at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero celebrates his birthday today.
The keeper, who was to fault for most of Spurs’ goals at White Hart Lane, has been sent a cheerful birthday message by the club on Instagram. Despite the positive wishes from City, fan reaction to the post has been less than tasteful.
Comments from fans include nasty death-threats, wild expletives and calls for the club to sell the former Malaga stopper who has only been at the club since 2014.

City’s number one stopper Joe Hart, who was rested against Mauricio Pochettino’s side, sat on the bench to watch his team-mates suffer their worst defeat since the club was taken over in 2008.
One particular fan came to the aid of Caballero on Instagram. The supporter in question commented that fans should “try have a ball hammed at them,” suggesting that the performance by Spurs would have been difficult no matter who was in goal.
Spurs, who have now won three back-to-back Premier League games, were by far the better side on the day against the early title contenders. The race for Premier League glory is now wide open, given that no side in the top six has been convincing in their pursuit of the ultimate prize.
The Manchester side face Champions League new-comers Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday night, with Hart set to return in goal instead of team-mate Caballero.
Anyway, happy birthday Willy! Maybe next time.
