Manchester City’s season could be dealt a huge blow with The Telegraph reporting that Ilkay Gundogan could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The midfielder suffered suspected ligament damage on Wednesday night during his side’s 2-0 win over Watford at the Etihad Stadium.
While trying to intercept the ball, Gundogan felt a twinge in his knee and then later made the problem worse during a challenge on Nordin Amrabat, reports the newspaper.
City have not given any official confirmation of how long Gundogan is likely to be on the sidelines for, but it is understood that the player expects to be on the treatment table for five months.
The newspaper claims that the Germany international had tests on Thursday, but will undergo further assessment today in order to learn the root of the problem.
Gundogan is no stranger to injury problems having spent a lengthy spell out with a knee problem, which he suffered at Borussia Dortmund last year.
