Most players that end the season as a Premier League champion would think that they are a shoe-in for their national team.
Unfortunately for Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte, he was unable to break into Didier Deschamps’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The 23-year-old, who has won three trophies over the course of his career so far, has not yet been capped at senior level.
After moving to the Etihad Stadium from Athletic Bilbao in January, he had to prove that he was worth the £57m price tag.
In total, the centre-back made nine appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Given that Deschamps had a number of defenders to choose from, it was always likely that there would be a few selection surprises.
For some City fans, they were left disappointed by the snub, but comforted by the fact that another one of their players, Benjamin Mendy, was included.
Supporters took to Reddit and social media when the France squad was announced, and some took issue with the fact that Kurt Zouma was named on the reserves lists and Laporte missed out.
