Mancini to kick-start summer rebuilding with Argentine ace

Roma attacker Erik LamelaManchester City manager Roberto Mancini is set to start his summer rebuilding plans with a move for Roma attacker Erik Lamela, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Premier League champions have endured a tough start to the current season, with some putting their drop in form down to mistakes in the transfer market.

Both Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell arrived from Swansea and Everton respectively as the club’s big name signings, but have failed to live up to expectations at the Etihad Stadium.

This has led to speculation that Mancini will look to make sure the same errors are not made again by preparing radical overhaul of his squad.

The Italian has made Lamela one of his top targets, and reportedly travelled to Rome to watch the youngster on Sunday.

He is said to feel that the Argentine would slot in alongside fellow countrymen Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez, as well as David Silva, to form a strong attacking quartet.

The 20-year-old has netted 11 goals in Serie A this term, despite the capital-based club languishing in a midtable position.

Lamela has long been regarded as one of the world’s top emerging talents, and was even compared to Barcelona star Lionel Messi prior to his move from River Plate to Roma.

Mancini is also thought to be keen on fellow Roma man Marquinho, who only joined the Italian club last year from Fluminense.
