The French centre-back was signed by the club in the summer of 2014 after emerging as one of the most promising young players in his position in Europe at Porto.
However, the 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular slot in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting XI, with error-strewn displays having led to question marks about his swelled valuation.
And reports claim that Guardiola is plotting a defensive revamp as he gears up to take over the Manchester giants this summer, with Mangala a player he’s willing to sacrifice.
It’s unlikely the club will get anywhere near the vast sum they paid for him, though it’s likely continental clubs will be interested given his fine form at Porto.
Mangala will be joined heading out of the exit door by fellow centre-back Martin Demichelis, 35, whose contract is set to expire in a few months’ time.
