Incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to reunite with Javier Mascherano this summer amid suggestions that the ex-Liverpool star is ready to leave Barcelona, according to reports from CalcioMercatoWeb.
The Spanish tactician was in charge at the Nou Camp when the Catalans snapped up the Argentine destroyer, and made him a big part of his first-team set-up – converting from a commanding defensive midfielder to a solid centre-back.
Mascherano has since gone on to win major honours at Barca, playing a key role in the La Liga heavyweights’ treble-winning season under Luis Enrique in 2014/15.
But, El Confidencial claim that he’s grown unsettled at the club amid a recent tax evasion case due to the lack of support he received, and reports now suggest that Guardiola is eager to take advantage of his desire to move on with a summer swoop.
Mascherano, 31, is a player the current Bayern Munich boss knows well, while he boasts extensive experience in the Premier League after playing for West Ham and Liverpool – he is still a fans’ favourite at Anfield.
