New Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has declared that he hopes to repay the faith shown in him by Manuel Pellegrini.
The Argentine completed a shock £3.8m deadline day move to the Etihad Stadium from Atletico Madrid, despite having only signed for the Spanish capital-based outfit earlier this summer.
Pellegrini coached the 32-year-old at Malaga last season, and is believed to see him as the ideal man to fill the void left at the heart of his defence by Vincent Kompany’s injury.
Demichelis says that he is proud to have joined City, and says that he is aiming to repay the support shown to him by his manager:
“I am delighted to have joined City because I am still hungry for success and want to improve,” he is quoted by The Mirror.
“I have been in Europe for 11 years now and this was a great chance for me to play in the Premier League with such a big club.
“Now I want to repay the manager’s faith in me out on the pitch. I can’t wait to get started.”
Demichelis brings much experience to City’s squad, having spent eight years with German giants Bayern Munich prior to joining Malaga in 2011.
Pellegrini is said to see the experienced centre-back as cover for first choice defensive pairing Kompany and Matija Nastasic, who have suffered from various injury woes of late.
