Newcastle shoot themselves in the foot against Man City – after just one minute

Any team heads into an away game at Premier League champions Manchester City with a degree of trepidation. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are usually a terrifying force at home, so surely the first thing that any team needs to ensure when heading to the Etihad is that no early mistakes are made, otherwise the 90 minutes could feel like dragging on for an eternity.

Spare a thought for Newcastle’s Vurnon Anita then, who clearly didn’t get the memo. Not only did the Dutchman inexplicably lose possession dangerously close to his own penalty box, but his subsequent attempt to get the ball back only led to him conceding a 1st minute penalty by clipping Man City’s Edin Dzeko in the box.

City’s Sergio Aguero coolly slotted home the spot kick (as if that was ever in doubt), leaving the Magpies with a heck of a mountain to climb – with just 60 seconds on the clock. Oh to be a Newcastle fan…
