Manchester City's interest in Riyad Mahrez looked initially as if it came from Pep Guardiola's desire to replace Leroy Sane once he suffered an injury in the FA Cup tie against Cardiff.

However, the rumours refused to go away and the Algerian magician has joined the Premier League winners as they set about retaining their crown this season.

Both men have enjoyed the summer off after Sane was left out of Germany's doomed attempt to defend the World Cup title but Mahrez's arrival could spell more bad news for the wideman.
