Roberto Mancini exit finally confirmed

Roberto Mancini, Manchester CityRoberto Mancini has finally been given the sack by Man City, with Manuel Pellegrini hot favourite to take over.

The Manchester City board have released a statement this evening suggesting that it has been “a difficult decision for the owner, Chairman and Board to make” given the transformation the former Inter boss has made at the Etihad, but one that had been necessary after missing out on several of the club’s targets this season.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “Roberto’s record speaks for itself and he has the respect and gratitude of Sheikh Mansour, myself and the Board for all of his hard work and commitment over the last three and a half years. He has clearly also secured the love and respect of our fans.”

The writing appeared to be on the wall for the Italian tactician, with City officials refusing to comment on his position, prior to the weekend’s FA Cup final.
And following the shock defeat to Wigan in the final, many had given him hours before the inevitable decision was announced.

Assistant manager Brian Kidd will assume temporary control of first-team affairs for the remaining two games of the season and the post-season tour to America, but it would come as little surprise to see Pellegrini confirmed as Mancini’s successor in the near future.
