The City boss has spoken out on his target for the next month after his side’s 2-1 win against Chelsea in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley set up a final date against Premier League strugglers Wigan on May 11.
Mancini claims he wanted a Premier League and FA Cup double when the season started so he is urging his players to at least pick up the trophy given that rivals United are firmly on course to take the league title back to Old Trafford.
And, while the Italian accepts that the Red Devils’ 15-point lead is unassailable with just seven games remaining, he wants City to keep winning their league games so they don’t gift them the crown and also cut the deficit down between first and second.
“United deserve to win this title but we deserve to fight until the last two or three games,” said Mancini.
“Our target at the start of the season was the Premier League and FA Cup.
“We knew the Champions League would be difficult because we had a difficult group.
“We had a chance to win another Premier League if we worked well last summer. But we didn’t. We made some mistakes.
“We are frustrated about that but we know we are a good team.
“We want to win the FA Cup final and we have a chance to finish second and show we don’t deserve to be 15 points behind.”
