Shakhtar Donetsk insist that no deal has been agreed with Manchester City over the sale of Fernandinho.
Reports emerged earlier this week stating that City had agreed terms with the Ukrainian side and were set to complete a £23million deal to bring the Brazilian to the Premier League when the transfer window reopens.
However, Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu claims City must match the release clause in the 27-year-old’s contract if they want to sign the midfielder, and claims his side are at a higher level than the former Premier League champions.
“If City want to [sign Fernandinho], the clause is €50 million [£42.3 million],” Lucescu told PRO TV.
He added: “If our players receive offers from teams higher than Shakhtar, we do everything possible to help them.
“Currently, I think Manchester City are not at our level.”
