Former Tottenham Hotspur manager and player Tim Sherwood has suggested that Manchester City may look to sign Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.
Sherwood, speaking on ITV’s Europa League highlights show, made the comments after watching the Red Devils beat Fenerbahce 4-1, a game in which Carrick was influential.
Carrick has not played much this season for United under Jose Mourinho with Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba all being preferred as options in midfield, but Sherwood feels he’s actually good enough to get in any Premier League side, including City’s.
He said: “Man. City are crying out for a Michael Carrick. They play Fernando and Fernandinho in there and they’re good at what they do, but they can’t do what he can do. They can’t link the play like Michael Carrick.”

Pep Guardiola has played Fernandinho most often in the holding midfield role that Carrick plays in but with Ilkay Gundogan returning from injury in recent weeks, the Brazilian has seen his place under threat.
The Citizens host Southampton this weekend in the Premier League whilst United travel to Chelsea on Sunday.
