Manchester City hosted Arsenal on Sunday afternoon with their backs against the wall and the pressure on to find victory or else be cut adrift from the title race.

That pressure was only heightened when Theo Walcott slipped through in the first minutes and slotted home to give Wenger's side the lead. From that point on Guardiola's team dominated and finally found that ability to control a football game again.

They were excellent, especially in the second half, and two incisive finishes by Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling gave them a huge victory, closing the gap on Chelsea to 7 points.

While Chelsea still look imperious in that top spot, City at least showed they have a fighting spirit and the confidence to win games against the top opposition in the league.

Let's take a look at FIVE things we learned from the fixture...

Walcott is actually becoming reliable

Theo Walcott has now scored 11 goals for Arsenal this season after his smart finish from Sanchez's lovely through ball gave the Gunners the lead at the Etihad.

It was a goal that should've seen his side go on to win and despite that not happening, the goal shows that Theo Walcott is becoming one of Arsenal's most consistent players.

There have been times that's not been the case but is he finally beginning to show the consistency required to be a star player for the club.

Sane isn't a dud

There have been question marks about Leroy Sane's ability to be a Manchester City player since he joined in a big money summer move. Surely those are put to rest now after a sensational second half performance inspired his side to victory.

Coolly finishing to equalise, it was his direct running and pace that really push City onwards early in the second half, finally showing he has what it takes to be an influential player.

Kevin De Bruyne is the heart of this City side

Despite playing an unusual striker's role on Sunday, Kevin De Bruyne again shone as City's brightest talent on the pitch.

He kept the pressure on Arsenal all afternoon and it was his cross field ball that found Raheem Sterling for the winning goal.

His ability on the ball is among the best of the Premier League and his determination to win is keeping this City team going right now. A superb player that has becoming the beating heart of Guardiola's side.

Guardiola's team do have spirit

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola

No-one has ever questioned Manchester City's raw ability but the doubts about Guardiola's team have been whether they have the team spirit and cohesiveness to rise against adversity.

They addressed those doubts today and then some. Winning from 1-0 down in any Premier League match is a tough ask but against Arsenal it's a huge effort.

The will to win today was clear to see. As soon as they went a goal down, City had a desire and hunger to get goals and credit must be given to the manager for that spirit.

That's  12 consecutive games now that Arsenal have conceded and goal of which there have been 8 Premier League goals.

It's a dismal record and the main reason they aren't sitting top of the table right now. The fact that they've lost matches they've been ahead in twice in a row compounds the problem

Wenger needs improvement fast at the back or a good season is going to turn into a bad one very quickly.
