Pep Guardiola will be keen to exasperate revenge on former club Barcelona this Tuesday by beating the Catalan giants at the Etihad Stadium. City were humiliated in Spain just a fortnight ago when the Blues suffered a comprehensive 4-0 defeat.

Last weekend witnessed Manchester City end a troublesome period by securing a 0-4 victory over West Brom. However, Guardiola faces a different prospect as he takes on the world-class attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

Barcelona have suffered mixed fortunes this campaign, and the injury-struck squad travel to Manchester hopeful of ensuring their 100% competitive winning record over City.

The progression undertook since Guardiola's reign commenced is already evident, but if he is to silence all his doubters and critics, he must guide City to another great European scalp in the Champions League.

For the Blues to have any chance of victory, it's imperative Guardiola chooses the right starting line-up.

GK: Willy Caballero

Willy Caballero

With Claudio Bravo missing due to suspension, Willy Caballero will stand in for the suspended Chilean international.

Caballero is prone to mistakes when playing for City, but Guardiola will be confident the Argentine can keep the MSN trio at bay.

More worryingly, in seven games played for City this season, Willy has only kept one clean sheet.

CB: Nicolas Otamendi

Little is mentioned in the press of Otamendi's form, but under Guardiola, he has recaptured the ability to defend.

Otamendi and Stones have built a solid partnership and complement each other's game, but the Argentine's La Liga experience could prove invaluable as City try to secure back-to-back victories.

Suarez and Otamendi aren't too dissimilar regarding style, both being very aggressive yet technical players, and it will make it an attractive battle between the duo.

CB: Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany

The Belgian's return to fitness has been a revelation to say the very least. The inspirational captain has battled injuries for the past 18 months with Guardiola cautious over his return.

Kompany looks set to duplicate Ledley King's situation at Tottenham and his presence will undoubtedly perk up proceedings on Tuesday evening.

CB: Gael Clichy

Clichy

Long-serving Clichy is regularly swapping his starting position with Kolarov. However, the Frenchman's agility and defensive security are likely to see Guardiola trust the left-back in his makeshift back-three.

Against the pace of Messi, Neymar and Suarez, Clichy can contend with the deadly trio much easier than a snail-paced Kolarov.

CM: Fernandinho

Fernandinho Guardiola Instructions

No Pep Guardiola team is complete without the versatility of Fernandinho. The midfielder has been ever-present for the Spaniard thus far and Tuesday's game will prove no different.

Despite being at fault for the first goal in the Nou Camp, Fernandinho's season cannot be criticised by supporters. The Brazilian holds the difficult task of containing the impressive Barcelona midfield.

CM: Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan

Gundogan's Manchester City career has been very impressive - especially when you discover City paid less for him than United paid Mino Raiola when signing Paul Pogba.

Guardiola's style is ideally suited to Gundogan's attributes and he'll be expected to control the game against Barcelona on Tuesday. Two goals and an assist against West Brom ensure he goes into the match in red-hot form.

LM: Nolito

Nolito

Many questioned Guardiola when he signed the former Celta Vigo forward, but Nolito's contribution cannot be disputed this season.

Once a Barcelona player, Nolito will be keen to inflict revenge on his former club. Luis Enrique saved the career of Nolito according to the player himself, but the Spaniard will be trying to show what the Catalans are missing.

RM: Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling

It's amazing what confidence can do for a player. Guardiola has instilled the necessary belief into Sterling which is now evident for all to see.

Sterling's pace could cause some issues for Barcelona. Against Celtic,he was influential in ensuring City came from behind three times to win a point. This time around, Sterling will hope he can land all three for the Citizens.

CAM: David Silva

David Silva

If you could wish for any player to help your side maintain possession, look no further than David Silva.

The 30-year-old has been sensational under Guardiola and recaptured his infamously devastating form.

Silva would be ideally suited to a team like Barcelona. Nonetheless, Guardiola will be hoping Spain's fifth record goalscorer can inflict the necessary assists for Aguero on Tuesday.

CAM: Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin de Bruyne Pep Guardiola

When De Bruyne plays well, City play well.

The Belgian has been an inspiration since his big-money move from the Bundesliga. Guardiola opted to play De Bruyne as a false nine at the Nou Camp a fortnight ago, but the Belgian looks set to revert to his playmaker role this time around.

ST: Sergio Aguero

Aguero

Only a fool would doubt the ability of Sergio Aguero, who will be keen to improve on his two-goal haul from the weekend's victory over West Brom.

Despite apparently suffering the worst form of his City career, Aguero has still mustered 13 goals from 13 games this campaign. A 14th would be warmly welcomed against Barcelona.
