It has been reported by The Daily Mail this week that Riyad Mahrez has been openly complaining about his lack of playing time under Pep Guardiola around Manchester City's training ground and is threatening to quit the club.

In light of this rumour, Football FanCast writers have given their verdicts on whether or not the Citizens should cash in on the bad egg Mahrez in the summer transfer window for the sake of preserving the squad harmony at the Etihad Stadium...

"Yes. Mahrez is hardly Pep Guardiola’s most important player this season and City would recoup a fair amount of the £60m they splashed on him. Indeed, it is often felt that he isn’t quite the player they expected him to be. He certainly isn’t better than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Leroy Sane or Bernardo Silva. If he is whingeing, City should cash in and reinvest. He simply isn’t worth the trouble, otherwise."

Matt Dawson

"Riyad Mahrez is a bit of a weird character and it appears as though he has an attitude problem. He wanted to leave Leicester to play for a bigger club but now he's complaining about a lack of game time so he needs to work out what he actually wants. Perhaps he simply isn't good enough and considering the wealth of talent City have they have to cash in on him. He's only shown glimpses of what he's capable of in Manchester and you can bet on Guardiola to find someone better in the market."

James Beavis

"In my opinion, he's never really been a good fit at City, and signing him has clearly proved to be a rare mistake by the club. It seems unlikely that he will come good at the Etihad Stadium given he isn't as young as Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva. The reigning Premier League champions would still get a decent fee from someone if they moved him on this summer, which would allow them to strengthen positions that need reinforcing."
