Title race still open says Toure

Manchester City midfielder Yaya ToureManchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is insistent that the race for the Premier League title is still alive.

Despite beating Chelsea over the weekend, the Sky Blues are 12 points adrift of local rivals Manchester United with 11 games left to play.

This has led to suggestions that the battle for English football’s top prize is all but over, particularly with the Red Devils looking formidable of late.

But, Toure says that the fight is far from being over and is confident that City have enough ability to bridge the gap:

“We needed 12 wins and we have to keep on going because we don’t know the future and you can’t say it is finished.” He is quoted by The Metro.

“For the football club and the fans, you can’t give up now.

“We know we have a big calendar – more difficult than them – but we have to keep going and try and win matches and not let any points (slip) away.”

City have struggled to reach the level of performances they produced last season on a regular basis this term.

Their drop in form has seen manager Roberto Mancini openly question the contributions of a number of his players, including the likes of Joe Hart and Samir Nasri.

Toure’s absence for the Africa Cup of Nations has also contributed, whilst star striker Sergio Aguero has struggled with injuries.
