“I have never been prouder to be an England fan!”
That isn’t Pl>ymaker FC‘s Ed Tarlton getting carried away after two wins over relatively weak opposition. No, there’s many factors to why so many England fans are echoing that sentiment right now.
There’s no doubt that Raheem Sterling has transformed as a player under Pep Guardiola and is mirroring his Man City performances in an England shirt but against Montenegro, he showed how much he has developed as individual as well.
Sam Chippeck has called on the media “to get behind a man who is doing this country a favour” after Sterling admirably spoke out against the myriad of abuse he faced from home fans last night and what was equally notable was the level of maturity with which Callum Hudson-Odoi – who Jamie Boxall points out, “hasn’t even started a game for Chelsea yet” – dealt with the hostile atmosphere.
Gareth Southgate has assembled a hungry squad who are currently beating teams so comfortably, Ipswich Fan Zone’s Ashley even has designs on the Euro 2020 trophy.
Norwich City Central’s Lewis offered some balance by explaining why there is still one piece missing from the Three Lions’ jigsaw but it’s fair to say that England’s progress right now is enough to make even the Germans jealous, just ask Bayern Fan TV!
