Yaya Toure takes aim at Guardiola in explosive interview, Manchester City fans react

Yaya Toure has not gone through his football career without controversy, and unfortunately the midfielder finds himself at the centre of another storm following his Manchester City departure.

After eight seasons at the Premier League club, the Ivory Coast international was released.

The former Barcelona star, who has won five league titles during his career, dropped down the rankings following Pep Guardiola’s appointment as manager in 2016.

Interestingly, the 35-year-old faded into the background at Barca during Guardiola’s four-year spell as manager at the Camp Nou.

In an explosive interview with France Football, Toure opened up about his relationship with the manager, accusing the Spaniard of seeking “revenge” and being “jealous” of the footballer.

Controversially, the midfielder also suggested that Guardiola ‘does not like’ African players.

“He was cruel with me. Do you really think he could’ve been like that with Iniesta? It got to the point I asked myself if it was because of my colour. I’m not the first, other Barça players asked the question too.

“Maybe us Africans aren’t always treated the same by certain people. When you see the problems he (Pep) has often had with African players, everywhere he has been, I ask myself questions.

“Pep is too intelligent to be caught. He’ll never admit it (not liking Africans). But the day he picks a team with five Africans in, I promise I will send him a cake!”

Many City fans were saddened by the news that Toure was leaving the club, but these remarks have soiled the fond farewell.

Plenty of supporters gave their opinions on the interview via Reddit, and the majority were left feeling disgruntled.
