Manchester United and Chelsea join race for La Liga hitman

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema

Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are all carefully considering a January move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, writes the Daily Star.

The Gunners have been linked with the Frenchman ever since his former team mate Gonzalo Higuain chose sunny Naples over north London, but if Benzema was to join Arsenal, rumours suggest that the move would be a part of a transfer merry-go-round that would see the Spaniards bid for Liverpool bad boy Luis Suarez.

But now it looks like Arsene Wenger must fight off fellow Premier League outfits, as Chelsea continue their frantic search for a potent striker and Manchester United rekindle their interest in the French forward. The Red Devils were famously eager to acquire his services in 2009, but lost out to Los Blancos.

Sports agent Francois Gallardo dropped further hints that fuel the claims of a Premier League move for the former Lyon man in a recent interview with French magazine Le Sport 10.

“A very important Premier League club is after Karim,” he said.

“This club wants the transfer to happen this winter, but if this is not possible, then next summer at the latest. The offer will be around €50m.”

Questions remain however, whether Real Madrid are willing to sell. Benzema has been a regular starter this season, and with the exception of Mesut Özil’s sensational summer move to England, they are hardly a selling club.

One possible explanation is that Carlo Ancelotti is making way for Spanish starlet Alvaro Morata.

Is there any chance of Real Madrid letting Benzema leave?
