Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could be set to face a dilemma regarding goalkeeper David de Gea. With the Spaniard's contract expiring at the end of the season, does the Dutchman give him an extended deal at Old Trafford?

His recent form dictates that United should move on and bring in someone new, a fresh face who could become the Red Devils' number one for the foreseeable future.

Since the beginning of last season, De Gea has conceded a staggering 89 goals across all competitions, which includes 77 in the Premier League. He has kept just 19 clean sheets in that period, and these are numbers which don’t make for great reading for the 32-year-old.

United have been linked with players such as Robert Sanchez and Yassine Bounou in order to improve their goalkeeping situation, although journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that one World Cuphero” – as dubbed by Sacha Pisani – could be on Ten Hag’s “list” of transfer targets.

Speaking to Football FanCast, O’Rourke explained that Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic could be a possibility for Man United:

“Yeah I would imagine Manchester United we all know there’s been lots of doubts regarding David de Gea’s long-term future at Old Trafford and they have been drawing up a list of potential goalkeeping replacements and I’m sure Livakovic will be on that list, especially following his outstanding performances at the World Cup as well.”

United missed out on the chance to sign the Croatian in the summer, and following his excellent performances in Qatar, it is looking increasingly like a foolish oversight by the Old Trafford hierarchy.

The 27-year-old has an average rating of 7.45/10 via Sofascore at the World Cup and was crucial in helping Croatia towards a second successive semi-final appearance in the tournament.

He kept two clean sheets throughout the finals while making four saves per match, also saving an impressive four penalties in shoot-out victories over Japan and Brazil.

Livakovic's value will no doubt have risen massively since his heroics in Qatar, but with Ten Hag looking to sign another goalkeeper, the Croatian might just be worth the inflated fee, enabling the club to look beyond De Gea in the process.
