Manchester United fans console Cristiano Ronaldo after controversial red-card

Manchester United fans have responded to the news that Cristiano Ronaldo might miss his return to Old Trafford after the former United man was red carded on his Champions League debut for Juventus on Wednesday evening.

It was a disappointing return to Spain for the five time Balon D’or winner, who saw red in the 29th minute against Valencia for grabbing the hair of defender Jeison Murillo after the two had a coming together in the box.

Ronaldo appeared to be angered by Murillo’s reaction, who fell to the ground, and the Portuguese captain was seen lashing out half-heartedly at the defender.

The red card means that Ronaldo could miss the Italian champions’ trip to Manchester next month, should UEFA deem the incident serious. The 33-year-old will miss his side’s next Champions League match against Young Boys with UEFA regulations dictating an automatic one-match suspension for any red card in the competition.

United fans, however, feel the red card was a bit harsh and are calling for no further action to be handed down on Ronaldo in the hope of seeing him back at Old Trafford when they host Juventus.
