Manchester United are back at it as they try to secure the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Sky Sports understand. But there seems to be some problems brewing because Palace have demanded at least £60m from the Red Devils if they want the services of this highly regarded 21-year-old right-back.

Their initial £40m proposition, the same source claims, has been turned down, so here are two reasons Manchester United need to up the ante and put another £20m on the table...

Defensive woes

Manchester United need new defenders. Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and co. won't cut it anymore and it's time for a significant step up in that department if the Red Devils are serious in their rebuild and return to glory project.

Last season, they conceded 13 shots per game on average and that resulted in 54 goals conceded in total. For a team of such high aspirations and ambitions, that is far too many. Wan-Bissaka is still pretty young and stating that he would be an immediate fix would be a bit too much, but his talents are obvious and so is his current ability.

Unfortunately for United, his estimated price set by Palace is quite correct. It sounds like a lot and it is a lot but that's because he has earned it. If you want to have quality within your ranks, you have to pay for it. That's how the modern market works and United will have to play by those rules just like everyone else.

Wan-Bissaka is the next best thing after de Ligt

It is no secret that Manchester United are still dreaming of Matthijs de Ligt and that might be somewhat holding them back in their attempted pursuits of other targets. But as The Guardian have already suggested, PSG appear to be leading the race, offering the Ajax man astronomical wages for a defender. Considering that, the English side can now probably stop wasting their time with another Mino Raiola client and concentrate all their efforts on signing Wan-Bissaka.

If de Ligt is considered to be off the table, United should emphasise improving the right-back area for now and put their pursuit of a central defender on hold. Undoubtedly, de Ligt is one of the greatest talents around right now. But in Wan-Bissaka, the Red Devils have a more realistic chance to sign a very good defender.
