A Man United flop after all? The stats say so…

Man United fans will want to forget last season ever existed.

David Moyes arrived, messed it all up and then left Old Trafford in a blaze of epic failure, leaving someone else to pick up the pieces.

Louis Van Gaal was tasked with returning Man United to the glory days enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson – and after a stuttering start looked to be making a difference before losing at home to Southampton on Sunday.

Many United fans will be praising Van Gaal and will trust him to succeed at Old Trafford. But the truth is that he is doing no better than David Moyes.

After 21 points last season, United had 37 points and were seventh in the Premier League. Although they now sit in fourth spot, they’ve still got the same return on points.

Add to the fact Moyes didn’t have the likes of Angel Di Maria and Falcao to call upon, you wonder whether David Moyes enjoyed a much better start than Van Gaal.

Has Van Gaal been handed a tougher set of fixtures than Moyes did? Is the Premier League more competitive this year than last? Either way, you wonder whether Moyes got more stick than he perhaps deserved at Old Trafford…
