Chelsea have N'Golo Kante. Liverpool have Fabinho, and Manchester City have Fernandinho. All of whom are vital players who allow the more expressive figures in the team to flourish and focus on their attacking duties, whilst the aforementioned names mop up any trouble and do the dirty work.

In Manchester United's case, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has Ander Herrera to do this job for him. The Spanish international is extremely good at what he does; breaking up play, intercepting potentially dangerous passes, and winning clever fouls to take the pressure off his teammates. He is a gem to have in the side.

However, his contract expires in the summer, with the Red Devils yet to offer him fresh terms which has alerted French champions Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 side are reportedly interested in signing the 29-year-old on a free transfer, and are said to be willing to offer the former Athletic Bilbao man a contract worth £150,000-a-week.

If this move was to materialise, United and Solskjaer would be in a whole world of trouble, not least because they have nobody like Herrera in their ranks who could replace what he offers.

So far in the Premier League this season, United's No.21 has averaged 2.4 tackles per game, as well as 1.9 interceptions per game - interestingly, both stats in that department are better than Fernandinho's for City, a man who has been tipped for a place in the Team of the Year by many and is regarded as the league's best in his position.

United have an abundance of sharp, flamboyant attackers who aren't too effective from a defensive aspect, such as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, so Herrera's job in allowing them to focus on finding the back of the net is key to adding balance in Solskjaer's United side.

Were he to leave, the 20-time Premier League champions would have a gaping hole in their midfield and would also be left severely unbalanced - even Phil Jones has been tied down to fresh terms, so why not Herrera? He must be kept at all costs.
