Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes has claimed that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will stay at Old Trafford, according to reports from the Mirror.
The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid recently, with the La Liga giants seeing De Gea as the perfect replacement for veteran shot-stopper Iker Casillas.
However despite having only 17 months left on his United contract, Mendes is looking to put an end to the exit rumours by saying that his client is happy at the club.
“He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester,” Mendes told BBC Sport.
“The player will decide, but he’s happy there at the moment.”
De Gea has been in amazing form for the Red Devils this season, with fans even preferring to keep the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper than exchange him for Wales superstar Gareth Bale.
Even ex-Barcelona Number 1 Victor Valdes, who signed for United on a free transfer in January, declared that the 24-year-old is probably the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
“I think now, in the moment, he is the best goalkeeper in the world,” Valdes said.
“His performance every day and in every game shows everybody that his level is very high. He has had a great year and it’s very nice. Now I think he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”
De Gea has played all of United’s 23 league games this season, keeping seven clean sheets.
