Alex Sandro developments only serve to push Shaw closer to the exit door

Manchester United have opened talks with the agent of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro with a view moving ahead of PSG in the race to secure him in a summer move, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Despite Luke Shaw being the younger man, it is likely to be him and not Ashley Young, who leaves Old Trafford to make way for the Brazilian flier.

What’s the story, then?

The report from the Manchester Evening News claims that 27-year-old Sandro is at the top of Jose Mourinho’s summer wishlist and that talks have begun between club and agent with a view to a move happening.

It goes on to say that Paris Saint Germain’s reported interest may create a battle but that United are selling Matteo Darmian to the Turin giants, which may swing the balance.

Shaw, not Young, will be the man to make way

Rumours have been rife since March that Shaw’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has reached such a point that he will depart Old Trafford this summer, but as a younger man, with a more natural talent to play left-back, it is a major shame he will be the man to make way.

Young is a stopgap, who has done remarkably well to reinvent himself at Old Trafford but it is Shaw and Sandro who should be the future, not the former Aston Villa man.

Either way, Sandro would go right to the top of the pecking order.
