Ancelotti rules out move to Manchester United

Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Fabio Coentrao will not be joining Manchester United, reports talkSPORT.

The Portuguese left-back has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after not featuring in Madrid’s opening 3 matches of the new La Liga season.

However, the former Chelsea boss has moved to end the speculation surrounding Coentrao by telling journalists that the wing-back will not be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu:

“Fabio is staying. I understood that he wanted to go, but really it was not the same desire for everyone. Now he’s decided to stay and everybody, the club, players and coaching staff, are happy with this decision,” said Ancelotti.

Madrid are set to offload some stars this summer in the wake of signing Gareth Bale on a world record fee of £86million. However, whilst speculation surrounds some of the players who play in a similar position to Bale, Coentrao will not be one leaving the Spanish capital.

Manchester United had been linked with Coentrao after they had two bids rejected by Everton for Leighton Baines. The English defender is a prize asset for the Toffees and not expected to be sold.

The Red Devils had looked at the former Benfica defender, but look set to have to reconsider their plans after Ancelotti’s comments.
