Man United fans fume at Andreas Pereira despite beating Newcastle 4-1

Manchester United may have pulled off a 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day but it seems Red Devils fans weren’t happy with the contributions of every player.

Indeed, Andreas Pereira is no stranger to criticism from supporters and that was the case once again on Thursday, despite him providing the assist for Anthony Martial and United’s first goal of the afternoon.

Much of the frustration appears to centre around a moment in which Pereira chose the wrong pass – pushing the ball through to Martial, who was actually drawing defenders away to make space for Mason Greenwood.

That incident and Pereira’s overall performance lead to criticism from fans on Twitter, with several describing him as “rubbish” and “awful”, and one even dubbing him more embarrassing than Gabriel Obertan and Bebe – two well-known United flops.

And Pereira’s questionable decision-making appears to be the source of much of the frustration, which the aforementioned poorly-picked pass only played further homage to.

Which pre-match tradition did David Moyes famously ban at Manchester United?

If you’re going to be a top-quality No.10, the position Pereira plays in United’s midfield, being able to make the right pass at the right time is key, but the Brazil international seems to lack that quality – one fan deeming him the most braindead footballer he’s ever seen in a Red Devils shirt.

And unfortunately for Pereira, his game-time may well suffer now that Paul Pogba’s made a second substitute appearance in as many games following a lengthy injury layoff.

While it remains to be seen if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to maintain faith in the 23-year-old, one assumes Pogba will come back into midfield from the off at his expense over the next few games.
