Arsenal legend backing World Cup winning new boy at Man Utd

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has predicted Bastian Schweinsteiger to be the best signing of the summer, reports the Metro.

Despite the £36.6m deadline day deal for Monaco forward Anthony Martial, and the £25m swoop for Dutch star Memphis Depay, the former Gunners and England bruiser is backing Bastian.

Currently a pundit for BBC, he described the Germany captain as ‘a top player’, and believes the 31-year old to have ‘a real hallmark of quality about him.’

The World Cup winner arrived at Old Trafford during the summer, in a reportedly cut price deal from German side Bayern Munich.

Speaking after Germany’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland, a match they won 3-2, the Arsenal legend told the Daily Mail, ‘he may not be a long term solution, but he could be a top signing.’

Reports have recently emerged that United boss Louis van Gaal swooped for the dominant midfielder after agreeing a cut price £6.5m fee with the Allianz outfit.

His first club, TSV 1860 Rosenheim claim the transfer fee amounted to nine millions euros, with the fifth division side receiving a windfall to the tune of around £15,000 for developing the player as a youngster.
