Alves’ contract is set to expire at the end of the season and it looks more than likely that the Brazilian will be leaving the Camp Nou as no new deal has yet been reached. Dinorah Santana, Alves’ agent, is quoted in the aforementioned Daily Express piece as saying:
“I interpret that silence to mean they don’t want Dani Alves, so we will begin searching for a new club. We won’t wait for Barcelona, they have to take the plunge.”
The Express claim that Santana is keen to see what is put on the table by Manchester United but it is believed that Alves’ will be seeking a three-year contract.
It’s easy to see how the Brazilian right-back would fit into Louis van Gaal’s preferred 5-3-2 system and would only have to get in front of Antonio Valencia to earn himself a starting place. However, much of the power remains in Barca’s hands should they decide to perform a U-turn and retain Alves’ services.
