Barcelona eye January swoop for exiled Man Utd star

Barcelona are preparing to launch a mega bid for Manchester United star Ander Herrera, according to the Metro.

With Barca bastion Lionel Messi and Brazilian midfielder Rafinha both out injured for extended periods, the Catalan giants are looking for cover in the attacking areas.

Herrera only arrived at Old Trafford last season in a £28m deal from Athletic Bilbao, but the Basque midfield maestro has failed to hold down a regular place under Louis van Gaal.

Luis Enrique is rumoured to be keeping a close eye on the 26-year old now as his side are able to register new signings when the transfer window reopens in January.

Despite signing midfielders Alex Vidal and Arda Turan from Sevilla and Atletico Madrid respectively over the summer, the Blaugrana have been unable to register either player as a result of an embargo restricted on the club.

They received sanctions following allegations they broke rules when signing youth players for their famed academy La Masia.

Although Herrera won the clubs Player of the Month award twice last year, over February and April, he has fallen down the pecking order with van Gaal preferring the likes of Juan Mata, Memphis Depay and Ashley Young in attacking midfielder berths.
