Bellerin could be Valencia’s long-term replacement at Man United

As reported by The Mirror, Manchester United have made contact with Arsenal about potentially signing right-back Hector Bellerin this summer.

What’s the story?

With Matteo Darmian generally un-fancied as a full-back by Jose Mourinho and Antonio Valencia entering the latter stages of his career, Man United badly need reinforcement on the right hand side of defence this summer.

One player that could be arriving at Old Trafford is Hector Bellerin.

That’s according to The Mirror, who report that United have already made initial discreet enquiries to Arsenal about, ahead of a potential switch.

The paper say the Gunners are keen to sell the player in order to fund their squad rebuild this summer, with United facing competition from Juventus for his signature.

Bellerin is rated at £31.5m by Transfermarkt.

A good signing for United?

Bellerin has had a difficult season at the Emirates Stadium, but so have most Arsenal players. He is undoubtedly an elite attacking full-back on his day and in new surroundings may flourish and reach his full potential.

Still just 23 years of age, he has plenty of room to improve and has excellent experience for his age, potentially rivalling Antonio Valencia long-term at Old Trafford if he signs for the Red Devils.

Mourinho could do a lot worse in his efforts to replace Darmian and there’s always the chance it damages rivals Arsenal too, especially if he can get better form out of the defender than Arsene Wenger has managed this term.
