Blow for Man United as target decides future

Manchester United’s reported summer transfer target Fabinho has signed a new contract with current employers Monaco, according to the French club’s official website.

The Red Devils added four new international players to Jose Mourinho’s squad over the course of the summer window but were being linked with the Brazilian defender also.

With the lack of a tried and tested option at right-back, the versatile South American was reportedly being eyed up as a shrewd acquisition for the title-chasing outfit.

However, a move to Old Trafford failed to materialise and the gifted defender ended up staying at the Principality outfit.

Fabinho has penned a new deal with the Ligue 1 club that will update his terms to 2021 and end speculation that he could have followed Anthony Martial by moving from Monaco to United.

Antonio Valencia is the number one choice at right-back currently, with Italy international Matteo Darmian also in the picture to play in the defensive role.
