The Sun is reporting that Paul Pogba will be allowed to leave the club in the summer following the arrival of Bruno Fernandes.

What's the story?

Manchester United completed the £47m signing of the Portugal international on Thursday, the penultimate day of the transfer window.

And The Sun now says that could pave the way for the 26-year-old World Cup winner to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Keep him

Pogba, of course, was heavily linked with a move last year, with Real Madrid said to be targeting the former Juventus midfielder. This season, he has not really going, managing just seven appearances in all competitions - that has largely been due to injuries that have kept him on the sidelines.

Some United fans have often lambasted him, but he has been a regular goalscorer for the club. Last season, he managed the most strikes amongst all of his teammates, with 16 - that was even more than striker Romelu Lukaku, who could only manage 15.

Despite being a midfielder, he has had to cope with the responsibility of scoring goals, which saw other parts of his game diminish - he had less dribbles and tackles last term, for example, than he often has done in other years. However, adding Bruno Fernandes to the squad could take that pressure of him. The 25-year-old was a prolific scorer for Sporting Lisbon, netting 63 times in 137 appearances - he also managed 52 assists as well.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has often played with a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, and that is a formation that could suit both Fernandes and Pogba. The former is mainly an attacking midfielder, so he could slot in there, with the latter taking up the slightly deeper role. With a defensive midfielder such as Scott McTominay alongside him - he has averaged 2.2 tackles and 1.4 interceptions this term - Pogba's potential could be unlocked.

Rather than let him leave, United must do all they can to keep him at the club this summer. Linking up with Fernandes could be a match made in heaven.
