Wayne Rooney is still seeking a move away from Manchester United despite holding talks with David Moyes, according to the Daily Star, and Chelsea believe they are in pole position to land the England striker for a fee of £25million.
Moyes revealed he has met with Rooney ‘three or four times’, but the pair have come no closer to reaching an agreement on the forward’s future.
Rooney is understood to have told United he wanted out before the end of last season, with Moyes’ predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson revealing the striker was unsettled at the club before his retirement.
United are adamant they do not want to sell Rooney, particularly to a Premier League rival, but Moyes has been unable to confirm that the forward is happy to stay at Old Trafford.
Rooney flew home from United’s pre-season tour last night with a hamstring injury that could keep the forward out of action for up to six weeks.
The news comes as a blow to Moyes, who was hoping to use the time away on tour to convince the England man that his future lies at Old Trafford.
Arsenal and Chelsea are both monitoring the situation closely, with Jose Mourinho’s side the current favourites to secure the deal.
