Promising Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda has revealed that Manchester United, City and Arsenal were all interested in signing him in January, but a loan move overseas was the only option the Blues would allow.
The 19-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most able young players in the Stamford Bridge outfit’s ranks, with the teenager expected to be a future star in the West London outfit’s first team.
Musonda has been farmed out to Real Betis for the remainder of the campaign to give him more experience of first-team football and has been impressing in La Liga.
The youth Frenchman will return to Chelsea this summer and will be given a chance to impress a new manager ahead of next season, where the club will look to get back amongst the silverware.
However, Musonda has confessed that he was a man in demand in January, with a host of other Premier League teams wanting to sign him.
“Nobody could know what [Jose] Mourinho had in mind for me,” he told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, translated to English by Sky Sports.
“It was simple: many English clubs wanted to buy me. Manchester United, City, Arsenal, but a loan was the only option for Chelsea.
“Only one thing matters to me – playing. Whether I return [to Chelsea] or not.
“There was interest from France, Netherlands. My ex-coach Yannick Ferrera, who I speak to a lot, wanted me at Standard, but I did not want to return to Belgium. And in the end I joined Betis.”
