Manchester United rejected the chance to sign Jack Rodwell from Everton, according to the Metro.
The reports claim that Everton, who were desperate to bring in some cash for manager David Moyes to spend, were willing to offload Rodwell and offered the youngster to Manchester United for £15m.
However, despite being linked with Manchester United on occasions in the past, Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to have turned down the chance of a deal.
The form of Tom Cleverley could well be the reason why Ferguson was prepared to reject the promising central midfielder.
