Manchester United’s chances of luring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this year could be about to take a hit, with reports from Marca claiming that Rafa Benitez is on the verge of being sacked by Real Madrid.
The Spanish coach – who has managed both Liverpool and Chelsea – has endured a tough season so far at the Bernabeu since taking charge of the club over the summer, with a heavy loss at the hands of bitter rivals Barcelona and a series of lifeless performances having alienated much of the club’s fan base.
And now reports claim that crisis meetings between Benitez and the Real hierarchy are imminent, which is likely to spell the end of Benitez.
And this could be bad news for United, with Ronaldo’s relationship with the former Valencia boss known to be frosty.
The pair are believed to have fallen out of late, which has been used to fuel the fires surrounding a potential Old Trafford comeback for ‘CR7’.
However, he is likely to opt to stay to work under Zinedine Zidane – who is set to step up from Real’s ‘Castilla’ side – while another more experienced manager may take the helm at the end of the campaign.
