David Moyes has expressed his delight after Rio Ferdinand signed a one-year contract extension to remain with Manchester United.
The 35-year-old centre back had previously made it clear that staying at Old Trafford was his priority and, following weeks of talks with the club, Ferdinand triumphantly announced the news on Twitter.
He said: “So happy to sign a one year extension for this great club, living the dream. Roll on next season.”
Ferdinand signed for United for a then-world record £29million fee for a defender in July 2002 and qualified for a testimonial match at the end of last season following ten years unbroken service.
It was reported in April that Ferdinand was to get a testimonial game at Old Trafford before the start of next season with the opponents still to be finalised.
David Moyes, who takes over at Old Trafford on July 1, said: “I am delighted Rio has signed a new contract and I am looking forward to working with him.”
