Departed Man United star aims sly dig at Rooney

Angel di Maria has done little to build bridges between himself and Manchester United fans by claiming that his new Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is better than Wayne Rooney.

The Argentina international left the Red Devils after one miserable season over the summer, moving to the Ligue 1 giants for a fee of £44m – almost £16m less than the Premier League side paid Real Madrid for him.

When Di Maria arrived, many Old Trafford fans predicted big things from him, however, he failed to settled in English football and was behind the likes of Ashley Young in Louis van Gaal’s pecking order by the end of the campaign.

He’s now over in France with PSG, and when quizzed on how good his new partner in crime, Ibrahimovic, is, the South American put the Swede above Rooney and level with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in terms of ability:

“I have been fortunate enough to play with Leo Messi, with Cristiano Ronaldo and United’s Wayne Rooney, and now Ibra.” He told Le Parisien.

“I’m really impressed by his technical quality and his movement.

“He is on the same level as Leo and Cristiano.”
