Depay V2.0… Man United set to beat Liverpool to highly-rated star

Manchester United look set to win the race for Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino despite late interest from bitter rivals Liverpool, according to reports from TuttoMercatoWeb.

The 23-year-old shone for the Bundesliga outfit last term, but was unable to help them to qualify for any form of European football.

Firmino has notched a stunning 23 league goals and weighed in with 21 assists since the start of the 2013/14 campaign for his side, and United have been linked with a £13.1m move for his signature in recent times.

However, speculation was quickly followed by claims that Liverpool were ready to win the battle, yet TuttoMercatoWeb believe that the Red Devils have all but beaten the Merseysiders to the attacking midfielder’s signature.

Should this prove to be true, it will be the second time Louis van Gaal has seen off Brendan Rodgers in the transfer market this summer, with Memphis Depay having snubbed the Reds after ‘secret talks’ to move to the Theatre of Dreams.
