Don’t join Man United… Southampton ace warns Red Devils target

Southampton loanee Eljero Elia has urged Memphis Depay to stay at PSV Eindhoven, despite interest from Manchester United.

The Netherlands international has emerged as one of European football’s hottest prospects this season, with his 19 Eredivisie goals likely to take the title to the Philips Stadion.

United are believed to be one of a host of players chasing the 21-year-old ahead of the looming transfer window, with Louis van Gaal a fan of the winger after coaching him at international level.

However, Elia – whose career has stagnated since a massive move to Juventus in 2011 – has called on his compatriot to stay with PSV for now for the good of his career:

“I think it will be best for him to stay at Eindhoven.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.

“My feeling is he should play in the Champions League for PSV then he would have the experience of playing at the highest level in his locker before the moves at 22.

“PSV don’t need the money and I feel Memphis doesn’t need it as he signed a nice contract recently.”

Depay shone under LVG at the World Cup last summer, netting two goals despite playing a back-up role.

Liverpool are also thought to be interested in the pacey attacker.
