Ferdinand pulled out of the England World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegero stating he had to follow a strict fitness regime. This was following a re-introduction back into the squad after not making the squad for Euro 2012. Ferdinand then caused further controversy after flying to Qatar for Al Jazeera TV covering England’s match against San Marino, the match he could have been played in.
Hogdson said: ‘If he is going to play in future there will have to be discussions, not least in relation to his fitness programme and his club’.
Hodgson did go on to say that he was more than satisfied with the unusual partnership of Chris Smalling and Joleon Lescott: ‘Chris Smalling was excellent and Joleon Lescott did a good job. There’s no interest for me discussing someone who was not there.’
Ferdinand has remained adamant that he still wants to play for England but may have to wait till Hodgson and Sir Alex have had their chat.
