The Spain international has bagged 21 goals and 13 assists in 86 appearances for the Red Devils, including six strikes and five set-ups during the 2015/16 campaign.
But the attacking midfielder’s Old Trafford tenure seems almost certain to come to an end during the summer transfer window, following the appointment of manager Jose Mourinho on Friday.
Whilst serving as Chelsea boss, he sold Mata to the Red Devils during January 2015 in a £37.5million deal – just a matter of months after the 28-year-old had claimed a second Player of the Year award at Stamford Bridge.
Predicting a similar fate this summer, Mundo Deportivo claim Mata has emerged as an ‘option’ for La Liga champions Barcelona, who believe he’d add depth to their midfield and forward line.
Furthermore, the Nou Camp outfit are convinced Mourinho’s lack of faith in Mata will force United to sell at a discount from his alleged £26million market value.
