Everton’s transfer stance slammed

Everton midfielder Marouane FellainiManchester United manager David Moyes has hit out at former club Everton for their refusal to sell him Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini.

The Scot – who swapped Goodison Park for Old Trafford earlier this summer – is yet to make a major signing with the Premier League champions, and is believed to be keen to break this record with moves for the Toffees’ star duo.

But, despite making multiple approaches for the pair, the Merseysiders have held firm in the stance that neither are up for sale.

This has angered Moyes, who believes that Everton are holding their players back by not allowing them the chance to move:

“I definitely do but I also know that if I’d been Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini, I’d have found it very difficult to keep them because I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players,” he is quoted by The Guardian.

“I signed every player at Everton, so I know a lot about them. They are a great club and they are both excellent players.”

United’s £28m joint offer for the pair was dismissed as ‘derisory’ by Everton recently, who value Fellaini in excess of £20m and Baines around the same figure.

While neither player has publically spoken out, it is believed that they would be open to a reunion with their former manager, which could allow the Red Devils to force through a late move for at least one of the duo.
