Ex-Man United boss thinks of Arsenal star as ‘the one that got away’

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson regards Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey as “the one that got away”, according to Wales assistant coach Osain Roberts.

The Gunners midfielder’s development has been impressive over the course of the past couple of years, with the midfielder having recovered from a career-threatening leg break to become a key member of Arsene Wenger’s XI.

Ramsey moved to Arsenal from Cardiff in 2008 as a promising youngster, with United having also made an approach for the playmaker.

Fergie was in charge of the Red Devils at the time, and has kept a close eye on his development since then.

The Scot was present at the 2014 World Cup debrief last week, where he caught up with Wales chief Chris Coleman and Roberts.

And the latter says that the former United gaffer spoke highly of Ramsey:

“He had a strong interest in how Aaron is doing because he was very close to signing him.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“He probably looks at it now as one that he lost out on and got away from him.

“It was really nice that he spoke about Aaron.”
