The former Manchester United manager David Moyes has been targeted by Spanish side Real Socieded as the man to become their new boss.
Reports from Spain claim that Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay flew to London yesterday to hold talks with Moyes, who has been out of management since his ignominious sacking by Manchester United in April.
The Scotsman was hailed as the ‘Chosen One’ following his appointment as United boss at the start of last season, personally picked by the retiring Sir Alex Ferguson to take over the reins at Old Trafford.
However, Moyes’s tenure proved to be disastrously shortlived, as a series of poor performances and embarrassing defeats throughout the course of the Premier League season precipitated his sacking before the campaign had even finished.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Moyes stated his desire to return to football management, and the advances of Sociedad suggests that his next job could be based overseas.
Current Socieded boss Jagoba Arrasate is on thin ice after a poor start to the season in which the Basque club have dropped into the bottom four of La Liga and crashed out of the Europa League, and while Moyes is reported to have rebuffed the club’s initial advances, an improved offer may persuade the former Everton manager to have a go at plying his trade abroad.
