As quoted by Sky Sports, former Manchester United star Phil Neville has revealed the Red Devils have undergone a "shift in culture" this summer.

What did he say?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side made just three signings in the transfer window, bringing in Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire. All of the new boys featured in United's 4-0 trouncing of Chelsea last Sunday, and Neville believes the current crop of players will now "fight right until the end" for the side.

He said: "They were more together, definitely. It is early days but it was a fantastic game of football. In pre-season I've seen a real together, unified team playing a certain way and system. There's been a shift in culture with the players brought in too.

"The best moment on Sunday was when James scored that goal and the emotion in his face about what it meant to him. Playing for Manchester United should mean something to you, and the signings Ole has made and the likes of (Mason) Greenwood, (Angel) Gomes and (Tahith) Chong coming into the squad means the bare minimum we'll see is a Man United team which will fight right until the end."

Early signs of progress

Whilst it is important not to get carried away by a single performance, the nature of United's victory over Frank Lampard's side certainly offered encouragement. Last season, the team fell to embarrassing defeats and below-par displays, but on Sunday, things felt slightly different.

Solskjaer's men may have rode their luck in the first-half, but there can be no denying that they kept on trying to push the pace. The forwards continued to press whenever they could, whilst the rearguard were quite happy to stay solid and simply defend.

The quickfire brace in the second-half raised the volume at Old Trafford, and the significance of the clubs fans being on board with the players cannot be understated. Having young academy talent shine, as Neville suggests, just gives the side players who will give their all no matter what.
