Former Manchester United defender and current Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has given Jose Mourinho tactical advice ahead of today’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.
Only two points separate the arch rivals in the Premier League table, with United second and the Merseyside outfit third.
The league meeting between the pair at Anfield earlier in the season failed to live up to expectation as the two sides played out a goalless draw.
Mourinho is known to set up defensively during big matches, and he successfully managed to stifle Jurgen Klopp’s men.
With both clubs fighting for second, neither will want to settle for just one point, and according to Bruce, United fans will be unhappy if the manager opts for a defence-minded game plan.
While speaking to talkSPORT, Bruce said:
“They can’t park the bus. The supporters will demand that they go and have a go at them, that is for sure. You are going to have to defend well because Liverpool’s undoubted strength is the front three and the pace of the front three. They are fantastic to see at the moment Liverpool but [United] will have a game plan that they can’t be caught on the counter-attack so be careful of it.”
Some United fans have expressed on Twitter that they are expecting Mourinho to set the team up not to lose.
On Monday night, the Red Devils suffered a scare when they went 2-0 down to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, but goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic ensured that United sealed a 3-2 win.
